This spring the process to design a new Flood Park playground began by asking community members their preferences for play equipment, ground covering, and color schemes.
Our most recent in-person and online survey that closed July 14 asked participants to view playground concepts and select their preference. We received 210 survey responses. Among the three concepts presented, boulder canyon was the most popular. It reflects a natural aesthetic that will incorporate rocks of varying sizes to serve as play and relaxation areas.
Now, CMG Architecture is in the process of incorporating play features highly desired among surveyed youth and adults into the boulder canyon theme. The playground will be inclusive, provide informal play areas, and incorporate popular features, such a bridge-connecting towers, climbers, slides, swings, spinners, ziplines, and a tot area.
The environmental plan for the park, including the playground, features preservation of most of the established trees combined with supplemental planting of new trees, grasses, and shrubs. The plan emphasizes use of native plant species. See conceptual drawings included below.
Playground construction is expected to begin spring 2025.
