The San Mateo County Pride Center has been working hard to develop resources for the LGBTQ+ community and our allies/advocates. If it's not a training or community gathering, the Pride Center has clinical services and peer groups to offer. It has also mobilized its many years of relationships and partnerships to develop helpful guides and information that are super easy to access and download.
The County's LGBTQ Commission encourages community members to go directly to the Pride Center website to download a host of resources and sign up for free workshops and events.
In this short post, we have three resources developed by the Pride Center and their partners that we hope are helpful for you. Please download and share and visit the Pride Center for many more downloadables!
Hotlines
September is Suicide Prevention Month and the Pride Center and Star Vista created this simple list of local and national hotlines that you can immediately access. Download Here.
Monkeypox Messaging
The San Mateo County Pride Center has witnessed great care in creating and distributing messaging about monkeypox that is factual and does not perpetuate stigma against men who have sex with men (MSM), which is currently the population with the most reported positive cases. We know this matter is delicate and have created a guide in how to communicate about this new virus. The LGBTQ+ community is well-versed in this language from what we’ve learned after living with HIV for over 40 years and we utilize those same principles based on what we learned worked well, and didn’t, and helps us translate them according to monkeypox. Download Here.
This guide is intended for everyone, including healthcare professionals, social service workers, front desk associates, family members, and friends. The Pride Center hope it helps increase awareness and understanding. If you have questions or need further support, please contact Pride Center Program Director, Frankie Sapp (he/him) at francisco.sapp@sanmateopride.org.
LGBTQ Workplace Inclusion: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Too Afraid to Ask
The Pride Center provided a collaborative training with Jennifer Brust, CEO of Sparta Business Solutions, where participants learned how to make their Human Resources practices more LGBTQ+ inclusive through updated HR policies, procedures, and resources. Included here are resources compiled by Jennifer and the Pride Center. Download Here.
Don't forget to visit the San Mateo County Pride Center website where they have more resources and activities for the community.
