The State recently launched the California Mortgage Relief Program which provides one-time payments to qualified homeowners who have fallen behind on their housing payments or reverse mortgage arrearages due to pandemic-related hardships. Applicants may be eligible for up to $80,000 in grant funds that do not need to be paid back. Residents earning at or below 100% of the San Mateo County’s Area Median Income (AMI) may be eligible if they are able to meet certain eligibility requirements.
Homeowners can check their eligibility and apply through an online portal at https://camortgagerelief.org/.
If you have questions on the program, please contact info@camortgagerelief.org or call the contact center at 1-888-840-2594.
The $1 billion in federal funding for this program comes from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 Homeowners Assistance Fund. The grant funds are first come first serve.
